On Monday of this week, we were buried in snow. You can see the pictures here. Today's weather forecast looks for a high of 62 (17 Celsius), and Sunday's for a high of 73 (23 Celsius). I guess this is that global warming I've heard so much about. Or maybe it's just those howling blasts of hot air radiating out from Capitol Hill. Who knows?
Back in January, I complained about the local deer population chowing down on my landscaping. You can see the pictures here. Now they're back...and they brought friends:
If you have a lot of recipes for venison, I can make you a pretty good deal. By the way, you can see in this picture how much of our snow has disappeared since Monday.
I survived yesterday's dental exam. No cavities, and the usual stern lecture about flossing more regularly...perhaps I'll take Mike's advice (see his second comment to yesterday's post). Or maybe not. Now I have to get Agnes to go for her dental exam...but that's like pulling teeth.
An article posted to the CNN website yesterday listed ten "secrets" one shouldn't keep from one's doctor. Specifically mentioned were "the three P's: peeing, pooping, and procreating." I mention this only because I know that either Mike or Fiona should be able to get at least a week's worth of posts out of this. Mike's will have video (which ought to be interesting), while Fiona's will be peppered with Scottish phrases like, "I cannae pee...time to call the feckin' doctor!" Over to you, guys.
Well, the weekend beckons. Tonight, we can go dancing. Tomorrow and Sunday, we get our preview of Spring. The nice, warm temperatures are a double-edged sword, though: on the one hand, it'll be gloriously warm and I'll want to work in the yard, tending the plants the $&^#! deer haven't eaten yet...on the other, it'll be a sea of mud. Of course, I could just sit on the deck in the sun and drink gin and tonic.
I think I feel a plan coming together.
Check back later and find out what happened.
Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

You have a "bye" on gardening--all the experts caution against going out to start working the soil at first thaw because it is too wet and will actually compact the soil.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the gin and tonic.
Send the deer to me I'll take care of them. I'll let them beat up my dogs :)
ReplyDeletePS gin and tonic sounds good.
I vote for sitting back on your deck. Although the deer might come for a visit and ruin your time out there. Do they come when you're about?
ReplyDeleteMy voice, in your post...sheer genius!
ReplyDeleteHave G&T it'll help you roll you "r"s better :-)
It's already here.

Oh, those deer look so sweet. How could you resist loving them.
ReplyDeleteThe other afternoon when we were traveling on the road we saw a virtual herd of deer (15 to 20) grazing in a nearby open area.
We live in the suburbs of Chicago. At the back of our property is a wooded area that is about 50 feet deep. It runs behind several homes in our neighborhood. Lately we have been seeing some coyote stroll through the wooded area. They look healthy. Rather plump in fact. I suspect they are feasting on Canadian geese which plague us all in this part of the country.
And it's gonna be 70 this weekend. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteKatherine - yet another reason why I like you!
ReplyDeleteAndrea - If the UPS guy will take them, they're all yours!
Amanda - Thanks for the right vote! The deer don't usually come by when we're in the yard, but they often rummage around in the woods right behind the house while we're sitting on the deck. They are pretty well used to people.
Fiona - I'll get r-r-r-r-r-ight on it!
Mike - TMI.
SusieQ - we're overrun with deer, largely because the area is so heavily developed around the relatively small areas of parkland that it's not safe to allow hunters to go after them. We don't have coyotes, but we have a huge fox that has gotten to his size by eating the millions of squirrels we have.
Melissa - I don't know...but I don't mind, as long as the snow doesn't come back!
oh no! not the deer hate! send 'em my way. i'd be happy to adopt them :)
