Cartoon Saturday

Cartoon Saturday rides to the rescue of your sanity again ... and not a day too soon!

On this date in 1912, the state-of-the-art ocean liner RMS Titanic celebrated its maiden voyage by suffering an unfortunate encounter with an iceberg; also on this date, in 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by actor John Wilkes Booth as he watched a play at Ford's Theater in Washington; international basket case North Korea has been widely condemned for launching a rocket/missile which broke up and fell into the sea less than two minutes after launch; a bankruptcy court has approved the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team to a new prospective owner; and actor Ryan O'Neal has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Bring on the cartoons ... heaven knows we need them this week!

We lead off this week with two of the most horrendous puns I've seen in a long time ... break out the groans, you'll need them ...

And ...

If you don't get that last one, e-mail me for an explanation ...

Dogs are often a lot smarter than we think ...

And ...

What was life really like for the dinosaurs? We may never know, but we can guess ...

And ...

This one comes courtesy of my nephew Ed, who is always on the lookout for good Cartoon Saturday material ...

In case you missed it, yesterday was the birthday of Irish novelist and playwright Samuel Beckett ...

And we round out this week's collection with two riffs on a theme, dedicated to John ...

And ...

After a few days of cooler, windy weather here in Northern Virginia, it looks as if the sun is going to come back and warm things up, just in time for me to mow the lawn and get my herb garden planted for the season. I have a long list of chores to do, and tomorrow afternoon I'll be emceeing the Spring Showcase at Lioudmila's Dance Studio in Alexandria. Somewhere in there I'll also try to fit in some relaxing on the deck with a nice gin and tonic.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts coming.
