I Feel Safer Now
From the Department of Really Stupid People comes this news flash, datelined Sparks, Nevada: Nevada Man Shifts in His Theater Seat, Accidentally Shoots Himself.
Yes, Dear Readers, a 56 year-old gentleman* in Sparks, Nevada, concerned about the possibility of being shot at by a fiendish criminal while attending the movies, took his legally-registered handgun, for which he had a concealed-carry permit, put it in his pocket, and headed for the theater. While he was sitting down in his seat, the gun fell out of his pocket and discharged, shooting him in the ... um ... gluteus maximus**. Fortunately, no one else was hurt, and the police have charged him with discharging a firearm in public. Were I the Sparks Chief of Police, I would probably have added reckless endangerment. Sadly, there is no law prohibiting reckless public stupidity.
One of the responding police officers was quoted as saying, "At least he apologized. You have to give him credit for that."
There is nothing more I can add to this story that will make any difference in the ongoing discussion*** of Second Amendment rights and a common-sense approach to public safety.
Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

* Old enough to know better, you'd think.
** That would be the "ass," to use the proper medical term.
*** Or lack thereof.
Totin' firearms can sometimes have a very tragic side, as when a troubled professor decided to take out her whole department at UAH.
ReplyDeleteThe term "natual selection" came to mind here. (although he didn't kill himself)
ReplyDeletedumb ass! is another phrase that comes to mind
I don't usually think of the movies as being a place where you should pack heat!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the bizzare things that must run through peoples' heads before they stick that gun in their pocket before going out the door.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he meant to put in his cap pistol instead. Poor guy.
ReplyDeleteThat story scares me as much as the clown in the toon!
