Cartoon Saturday

Welcome to August ...

The State Department closed 21 embassies and consulates and issued a global travel alert on Friday, warning that al Qaeda may launch attacks in the Middle East, North Africa and beyond in coming weeks; hundreds of cases of intestinal illness in the midwest have been traced to contaminated salad mix imported from Mexico; in New York, a woman on her first date fell to her death when the railing on the balcony of her 17th floor apartment broke as she leaned against it; the Justice Department has a settled a lawsuit with a California college student who nearly died in a DEA holding cell after being held nearly five days, handcuffed, without food or water; and in Cleveland, Ohio, a judge sentenced Ariel Castro, who kidnapped three young women and held them prisoner for nearly ten years, to life plus 1,000 years in prison.

We're off to a flying start for the new month. Good thing there's no shortage of cartoons ...

We don't usually think of death as a subject for cartoons, but I have a very large number of cartoons about the Grim Reaper in my collection. We lead off with two takeoffs on the subject of "cheating death" ...

And ...

What sort of pet would the child of Death want ... ?

Even Death needs a good pick-up line now and then ...

And finally in this week's collection of cartoons about Death, here's one that parents everywhere can appreciate ...

It seems as if every day feeds your paranoia by bringing salacious new details of how the National Security Agency is keeping track of everything you do. If it makes you feel any better, it isn't just you that's being watched ...

I've often been amazed at my inability to find much of anything any more that isn't made in China, including all the local souvenirs for sale in other countries. Here's a new approach to the problem ...

The auto makers have managed to con us with the "space-saver spare" scam ... now it's only a matter of time until the medical profession adopts it, too ...

Here's a cartoon for investment bankers, white-collar criminals, and Edward Snowdon ...

And we finish up this week's collection of cartoons with one that pretty much sums up the way I feel about the whole organized religion thing ...

I hope you enjoyed this week's selection of cartoons - my little contribution to helping you cope with the insanity. There's plenty more insanity where that came from, so it's a good thing that I have lots more cartoons where these came from.

I think we're going to need them.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts tomorrow.

  1. Great cartoons, despite the grim subject matter. The "Welcome to Heaven" one was priceless!
