Autumn is sneaking up on us ... the days are getting shorter and - slowly - cooler, and the leaves on the trees are getting ready to take on their fall colors. Labor Day, the traditional end of summer, has passed, and now we're getting ready to greet the new visitors, as this brief, but vivid poem by David Budbill reminds us ...
September Visitors
by David Budbill
I'm glad to see our friends come:
talk, laughter, food, wine.
I'm glad to see our friends go:
solitude, emptiness, gardens,
autumn wind.
Agnes and I are visiting our grandchildren (and their parents) in Dayton, Ohio, stocking up on photographs and good stories and swelling with pride at the new generation, and so regular posts to this blog won't begin again until this coming Wednesday. Be sure to come back then for more thoughts.

I'm changing 'solitude, emptiness, gardens,
ReplyDeleteautumn wind' to 'solitude, reflections, gardens,
autumn wind'.
Like the mixed emotions that accompany beginnings and endings of family's visits.
ReplyDeleteWhen are the two of you getting married?
How safe is your job?
Why do you commute so far?
