Oh, boy, what a week ...
Ontario’s premier declared a state of emergency Friday in reaction to the truck blockades that snarled traffic and disrupted life in Ottawa and at the U.S. border; Kamila Valieva, a 15-year-old Russian figure skating star who helped her team win Winter Olympic gold in Beijing, failed a drugs test in December; in Phoenix, Arizona, a man shot and injured nine police officers who responded to a call at his home and tried to rescue a baby that had been placed outside; Russia continues to ramp up its pressure on the West as war in Ukraine looks increasingly likely; and in Seville Township, Michigan, a QAnon fanatic who was charged with murder and felony firearms in the shooting death of his wife has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, telling investigators that he had a “neuro-link” implanted in his brain that allowed other people to read his thoughts, that he was getting messages from QAnon members telling him his wife was a CIA asset who was involved in a sex trafficking ring and he needed to kill her, and that President Biden had twins, a daughter and a son, and that the son had a sex change and was actually Jill Biden.
In "honor" of the relentless venality and cruelty of Der Furor's time in office, I thought a few barbed cartoons about the ugly side of politics would be appropriate for this week ...
There's a special thesaurus for politicians ...
It would certainly be more fun ...
I've noticed the same thing ...
Yes, let's ...
I wonder if this is how a lot of those bizarre Republican House members are found and groomed for office ...
A politician's life in prepositions - as a linguist, I think this is brilliant ...
The Congressional pyramid scheme ...
When the top 1% demonstrate ...
Can you imagine keeping track of all those ... uh ... legal fees? ...
Einstein missed the big one ...
And that's it for this week's edition of Cartoon Saturday ... I hope it helped take your mind off inflation, gun violence, Ukraine, and Der Furor's latest outrages.
Have a good day and a great weekend, and be sure to come back tomorrow for Randy Rainbow's musical tribute to vaccines. More thoughts then.
