Cartoon Saturday

You thought 2014 was going to be better than 2013? Silly you ...

One person was killed and 13 others injured when a bulldozer at a construction site in Germany dug up an unexploded bomb left over from World War II; according to the United Nations, at least two children have been beheaded and thousands more recruited as soldiers in the ongoing war in the Central African Republic; according to a report in a Chinese newspaper, the disgraced uncle of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un was not shot as earlier reported, but tossed naked into a cage to be eaten by dogs; an editorial in the New York Times has advocated clemency for self-absorbed windbag and despicable traitor Edward Snowdon*; and the parents of a three-year-old girl in Hawaii are suing the dentist they claim reduced their daughter to a vegetative state by using incorrect doses of improper medications.

It's a good thing there's no shortage of cartoons ... heaven knows we need them.

Our set of theme cartoons for this week deals with everyone's favorite tuber, Mr Potato Head ...

It seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Busted! ...

Gives new meaning to the term "peeling potatoes," doesn't it? ...

Andrea sent this classic to Mike and I via Facebook ...

And then there was the blessed event at the Potato Head family ...

So much for Mr Potato Head. How about a new twist on an old joke? ...

This one's dedicated to my English friend and medieval reenactor Craziequeen ... who, like the rest of us, may need a unique way to get rid of unwanted items ...

The Boy Scouts of the 21st century do their good deeds in 21st century ways ...

Wouldn't want anything to disturb the proceedings, would you? ...

And finally, this one's pretty clever ... just think about it for a minute ...

And that was your first Cartoon Saturday for the new year 2014. Think of it as a little something to warm your brain while the other end of you freezes in this miserably arctic January.

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

  1. The weather is miserable enough; but these cartoons hit the spot.

Hmmm....it's rude to receive cell phone calls at a beheading.

  2. Those gave a new way of looking at Mr. Potato Head.

Zen lesson for kids: potatoes have a limited time line for use in play.
