Play Ball!

It is about 1:15 in the afternoon here in Singen. We spent the morning running relatively unpleasant errands (like buying me a black sports coat and tie and a white shirt for the services on Friday), and Agnes and her dad are both taking naps. Since it's temporarily quiet, I thought I'd share with you this translation of an article I read in this morning's Suedkurier (the local newspaper). I am not, as Dave Barry would say, making this up ...

Men with Larger Testicles
Are Less Caring

Measurements made by scientists at Emory University in the US state of Georgia show that the larger a man's testicles are, the less likely are the chances he will take part in the changing, feeding, and washing of his child, take care of (the child) in sickness, or take the child to the doctor. The researchers measured the size of the male testes with the aid of magnetic resonance tomography, then measured the brain activity of the test subjects as they viewed pictures of children.

I think these researchers installed their equipment backwards.

Speaking as a father and grandfather of some significant experience, I can tell you that it takes real balls to be a good father, while a man who shirks the duties that come as a by-product of good sex has a vanishingly small pair of shrivelled and lifeless cojones.

Of course, I suppose the message attempting to be delivered by this "research" is that manly men (as measured by the size of their balls rather than of their hearts and brains) tend to be more interested in sex than in fatherly responsibility ... which is, sadly, true in many cases*.

I hope nobody paid good money for this study.

Have a good day. If you're a father, be a good one ... it's the most important job you'll ever have.

More thoughts later.

* Just look at the number of children being raised by single mothers.

I heard this yesterday on the radio....what silliness. Who the hell does a study of this and why waste the money? But I guess my dad had small testicles...I didn't need that picture. Thx Bill

Agreed -- this is stupid...Gross generalization and nothing more. But it does beg the question, "Can a eunuch be a good father?" ;)

It probably was funded, by whom I do not know.

So when I look for a husband, should I take along a vernier caliper? Did our Emory researchers also look into penis size and caring?

I saw this study yesterday also and put in my later post file. Going to go delete it now.

I wonder where this research is going from here.
