Cartoon Saturday

And the beat goes on ...

What was probably the most powerful storm in recorded history killed hundreds of people and devastated large parts of the Philippines with floods and sustained winds of nearly 200 mph; off-year elections in many parts of the country dealt setbacks to the far right wing of the GOP, leading to a rush of conclusions over the lessons to be learned; as if revelations of questionable activities of the National Security Agency weren't enough, there is now an investigation into alleged child abuse at a youth center which serves Ft Meade, where the agency is located; two US Navy admirals are ebing investigated as part of a major bribery scandal involving a foreign defense contractor; and in the last year, a 58 year old woman in Washington, DC, has made 226 calls to 911 and been taken by an ambulance to a hospital 117 times, making her the most prolific user of emergency services in DC history and leading to efforts to have a guardian appointed for her.

Too bad there's not a 911 we can call to help rescue Congress. All we have are cartoons to ease the pain.

This week, our selection of theme cartoons deals with art and artists ... we start with the 2013 update of the classic painting by Marcel Duchamp, Nude Descending a Staircase ...

Sometimes, an artist's dreams just have to adjust to reality ...

And every artist has his own motivation as to the disposition of his works of art ...

No matter what you do, someone will always be offended ...

Everybody's gotta start someplace ...

Moving on to other topics, Kathy and I have a long-running online Scrabble competition going on. I sometimes think she paid extra for the app that ensures I can have either six vowels and a consonant or six consonants and a vowel on any given turn. Other Scrabble players throughout history have had similar troubles ...

I'm not the only one who has the occasional tough day at the office ...

I thought this one was a priceless comment on the pitfalls of multiple marriages ...

A clever visual joke ...

And finally for this week, here's a look at the efforts of one of the countless lobbies swirling around Congress ...

And another week is over. Christmas is just a little more than a month off, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and the holiday party season is fast approaching. It looks like it's going to be a crisp, chilly fall weekend here in NoVa, perfect for looking at the hip-deep leaves in the yard and thinking that someone really ought to get out there and rake them. Or not ... because we've just started watching our collection of Game of Thrones episodes, and that's a lot more fun.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts tomorrow.

Great cartoons! It took me a second to get the acorn one; and I like the ones commenting on art.

I wasn't aware until now that there was a genre of art cartoons. They were funny!

I was at our local art museum and saw a pile of rocks at the piece of art.
