The Ultimate Christmas Gift for That Hard-to-Buy-For Person

Christmas is just around the corner, and I imagine from my own experience that many of you are anxiously searching for the perfect gift for that hard-to-please friend or relative. Cash and gift cards are always a last-minute option, but most of us would rather give something more personal and meaningful. There aren't a lot of options for really unique gifts ... except ...

I call your attention to this article, which advertises the availability for sale of the ghost town of Swett, South Dakota, for a measly $250,000 ... less than Donald Trump probably pays for toupee maintenance in a year. The town consists of more than 6 acres of prairie, a garage/tire shop, a house*, and the local bar, Swett Tavern. Several unsightly mobile homes and a derelict truck were removed some time ago in order to improve the town's curb appeal.

A real estate agent working to sell the town noted that there had been a number of inquiries about purchasing the town, including “people who wanted to be their own mayor, people who wanted to live off-grid, several production companies thinking about reality shows, hunters who wanted to create a hunting lodge, or somebody who wants to own a bar.”

It can all be yours for a mere quarter of a million dollars. Of course, it won't fit under the Christmas tree and it does need a little work, but how many of your friends in the 99% can say they own a town?

Make your bid today.

I'm working on a future post in which I'll suggest appropriate Christmas gifts for various famous (or infamous) celebrities and notable figures. Do you have any suggestions? If so, leave a comment and I'll include your ideas (with credit) in that post. But make your bid on Swett, South Dakota, first, before the word gets out.

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

* Said to be haunted.

One company wanted to rebuild the town in a TV show to be called “Swett Equity.”

No sweat in Swett? But you have to go to SD to claim your present.

Yeah, can't say that I'm interested in owning anything that requires me to move north.

I think the 250K would just be the beginning of the cash outflow.
