Today, June 14th, is a sad day for many of us here in the United States. It's Flag Day, the day on which we traditionally honor Old Glory, The Stars and Stripes, the symbol of our nation ... but this year, the 250th anniversary year of our country, the day has been debased as a pagan appreciation of Der Furor, the self-absorbed would-be tyrant who has done more to ruin the nation than anyone in our history.
On this day, I need something beautiful to remind me of better things and better times, and so I've decided to go with this classic love song by the great Eric Clapton ...
Here are the lyrics -
It's late in the eveningShe's wondering what clothes to wearShe puts on her make upAnd brushes her long blonde hairAnd then she asks me"Do I look alright?"And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight"We go to a partyAnd everyone turns to seeThis beautiful ladyThat's walking around with meAnd then she asks me"Do you feel alright?"And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight"I feel wonderfulBecause I see the love light in your eyesAnd the wonder of it allIs that you just don't realize how much I love youIt's time to go home nowAnd I've got an aching headSo I give her the car keysAnd she helps me to bedAnd then I tell herAs I turn out the lightI said, "My darling, you are wonderful tonight"Oh my darling, you are wonderful tonight
On this day, I am thankful for my lady, who is wonderful tonight and every night ... and day ... and helps me remember that the world is not all bad, no matter how hard some people work to make it so.
Have a good day and enjoy the rest of your weekend. More thoughts coming.
