Another week gone ...
The Sultan of Brunei took a great step into the past by imposing Islamic Sharia law, with its array of medieval punishments like stoning, flogging, and amputation of limbs, on his nation; having successfully encouraged chaos in Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin lost control of his proxies when pro-Russian extremists ignored his calls to delay a referendum on the status of eastern portions of Ukraine; four days after a tragic accident sent nine performers to the hospital, Ringling Brothers Circus resumed its performances, although without the "Human Chandelier" that was the focus of the accident; powerful tornadoes struck Colorado and Minnesota on Thursday, and high winds caused damage as far south as Texas; and police in Georgia are investigating the decapitation murder of an elderly man and the disappearance of his wife.
How would you cope if it weren't for the cartoons?
Our collection of theme cartoons for this week is inspired by the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick ...
Might the story have turned out differently if Ahab and Moby had tried to work things out? ...
There are ways to avoid the harpoon ...
The original climax of the story was a bit less dramatic ...
Another way to avoid the harpoon ...
If Moby Dick had been written as a TV courtroom drama ...
Turning to other topics, I had one of my periodic visits to the doctor this past week ...
It really is funny if you think about it ...
Why babies cry ...
Runners find their motivation in many different places ...
And finally for this week, I just couldn't pass this one up, in honor of the GOP's relentless gnawing at its Benghazi bone ...
And there you have it for this week's edition of Cartoon Saturday. Here in NoVa it's going to be hot and probably stormy today, and tomorrow looks questionable as well for Mothers' Day. Oh well ... at least we don't have to shovel the heat and rain.
Have a good day and a great weekend. Come back tomorrow as we celebrate Mothers' Day ... Poetry Sunday will be held on Monday so that we can salute our moms on their day.
More thoughts then.

You gave us a new twist on that old classic, Moby Dick, and a caveat about being a taxi passenger to Paris. Well played, as your Cartoon Saturdays always are!
Love the one with the monkey!!!
I liked the one about babies crying.
The cartoon even had her eating cake!
I tried that running phone number thing once. But when they start you in the back of the pack and everyone is faster than you it doesn't work very well.
Gave me a totally new viewpoint on Moby Dick. Ahab just needed his meds.
I love that sign on the maternity ward door.
