We've finally dried out after yesterday's deluge here in NoVa, and had a wonderful time last night at the Opera Ball at the Austrian Embassy in DC ... that's the good news. But then there's all this ...
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the July 2012 killings of two men in Boston, in addition to his charge of the 2013 slaying of a man who was dating a his fiancee's sister; a court in the Sudan has sentenced a woman to death on a charge of apostasy, or the renunciation of faith, and also to 100 lashes for adultery because her marriage to a Christian man is considered void under Sharia law; at least 10 people were killed in two grenade explosions Friday in central Nairobi, Kenya; a Russian rocket carrying a communications satellite into orbit was destroyed after veering off course; and the U.S. Strategic Command announced the existence of "CONOP (Concept of Operations) 8888," which uses the threat of a planet-wide zombie attack as a training exercise for real-world catastrophes.
Sleep well tonight ... STRATCOM is ready to protect you from the walking dead. The cartoons are ready to keep you from worrying about them. The walking dead, I mean, not STRATCOM, although I understand the confusion.
This week our theme collection of cartoons deals with restaurants.
People cope with lengthy seating delays in various ways ...
Some places tend to have pretty steep prices, like this one ...
and this one ...
Are you sure that what you ordered is what you're really getting? ...
I've eaten in snooty places like this ... but not more than once ...
If it works for Pope Francis, it can work for ... well ... anybody ...
Oh, I almost forgot this restaurant-ish, and ... uh ... timely pun ...
Mother Goose, 2014 ...
I have a lot of experience going to amusement parks with my grandchildren, and can relate to this one ...
And finally, can you spell NSA? ...
So much for this week's iteration of Cartoon Saturday. Here in NoVa it looks as if the weather will be very pleasant after our near-biblical deluge of the last two days, so maybe it will be a good weekend for working in the yard. Or sitting in the shade, drinking gin-and-tonics. Hmmm ... I do have a lot of limes to use up ...
Have a good day and a great weekend. See you back here tomorrow for Poetry Sunday.

I feel much better not having to worry about zombies. :)
NSA's saving grace, I suppose.
Liked the one bout the Donner Party.
Maybe you could drop the Donner party off at the NSA.
I'm glad the evening at the Opera Ball went great. Have a nice weekend.
Your cartoons are always delightful
