Welcome to the first Cartoon Saturday of 2016 ...
Comedian Bill Cosby was indicted by a Pennsylvania court on felony sexual assault charges after more than a score of women accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting them over a period of many years; three top advisors to the sputtering presidential campaign of neurosurgeon Ben Carson quit, throwing Carson's candidacy into deeper question; nearly 20 people were injured, some seriously, when fire engulfed a luxury hotel in Dubai on New Year's Eve; the State Department is falling short of a court-ordered goal to release some 55,000 pages of documents from Hillary Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State; and in Russia, President Vladimir Putin has signed an updated national security paper describing the expansion of NATO closer to Russia's borders as an "existential threat" to the country.
Speaking of existential threats, the 2016 presidential election is just 312 days away ... we'd better get to the cartoons right away! Since we're entering an election year and the national mood is ... shall we say ... sour, here's a collection of cartoons that seem appropriate for the occasion ...
I think that a lot of that Amnesia Soup is being consumed by the electorate ...
How Agnes and I celebrated the New Year, except that we didn't bother waking up at midnight ...
The morning after ...
I think recalls would be a better idea, but nobody asked me ...
One way to look at the start of the new year ...
You should have seen this one coming ...
Yes, you can see right through some people ...
Keeping it realistic ...
The news according to the presidential candidates ...
The universal adapter someone needs to invent in the coming year ...
And there you have it, Dear Readers, the first Cartoon Saturday of the new year. I hope you enjoyed it, because you'll have darned little else to laugh about in the coming year.
Here in NoVa, after an unusually warm and rainy Christmas, the New Year has begun with colder and more seasonable temperatures ... but at least it's not flooding or snowing. Well, other than the massive and overwhelming snow job being pumped out by our presidential wannabes.
Have a good day and a peaceful and happy holiday weekend. See you back here tomorrow for Poetry Sunday. More thoughts then.

It's a rainy day; but the cartoons brighten it.
A fine first cartoon Saturday of 2016!
I wondered what computer screens would say to each other. Now I know.

Still kept my New Years resolution from years ago to never make another New Years resolution.
