Just when you thought the news couldn't get much worse ...
Russia launched a massive invasion of Ukraine on three fronts, triggering economic and political sanctions from most Western nations but no direct military help to the beleaguered Ukrainians, who continue to put up a fierce resistance against overwhelming odds; President Biden has nominated federal appellate court judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to fill the Supreme Court seat being opened by the retirement of Associate Justice Stephen Breyer; four of the largest U.S. corporations have agreed to pay roughly $26 billion to settle lawsuits linked to claims that their business practices helped fuel the opioid crisis; Oklahoma U.S. House candidate Abby Broyles has apologized after reports that she became intoxicated at a Valentine’s Day weekend sleepover for middle-school-aged girls, berated several of the children and vomited into a hamper*; and in Michigan, a 26-year-old man was arrested on charges of hitting and killing a 64-year-old woman with his pickup truck in order to have sex with her dead body**.
This week, in "honor" of the Russian invasion of independent Ukraine, I thought a collection of cartoons about barbarians would be appropriate.
Can modern barbarians be environmentally responsible? ...
As Donald Rumsfeld once said, you go to war with the army you have ...
Barbarian triage ...
Contrary to popular belief in Republican circles, the current tsar is not tolerable ...
To "reply all," load the catapult with gravel ...
It doesn't always work, but it's always worth a try ...
Barbarian snowflake? ...
Recycling isn't a new thing ...
Lawyers were the original barbarian enablers ...
Well, yes ...
And that's it for our look at barbaric current events. I'm hoping for the best in Ukraine, but fearing the worst ... especially in view of the despicable behavior of many in the US Congress.
Have a good day and a great weekend. See you tomorrow for Musical Sunday.
More thoughts then.

* In true present-day fashion, she said in response to inquiries from reporters, “It’s clear this media smear campaign is politically backed, and I won’t stop fighting for Oklahomans.”
** You just can't make this stuff up.
