Cartoon Saturday

And away we go ...

As US forces continue their withdrawal from Iraq, control of the huge American base known as Camp Victory was turned over to the Iraqis on Friday ... in related developments, the Iraqis renamed the complex Camp Time to Settle Old Scores, while Congressional Republicans immediately introduced legislation to cut taxes; Wall Street had its best week since 2009, with the Dow, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq all up 7% or more for the week ... in a related development, Congressional Republicans immediately introduced legislation to cut taxes; the unemployment rate for November dropped to 8.6%, the lowest rate since March 2009 ... in a related development, Congressional Republicans immediately introduced legislation to cut taxes; winds described as "post-apocalyptic" and "of nearly Congressional strength" have caused widespread damage across much of the Far West; and speaking of wind, conservative website Newsmax.com has announced that professional windbag Donald Trump will moderate a Republican presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa on Dec. 27 ... in a related development, Congressional Republicans immediately introduced legislation to cut taxes.

Santa is busy measuring out coal to stuff Congressional stockings while you turn to Cartoon Saturday for relief from the ass-clownery.

The Republicans continue their search for a candidate to fill the shoes left by Saint Reagan (with apologies to Judy Collins) ...

Budget cutbacks are wreaking havoc everywhere, including hard-pressed police departments ...

And continuing two more riffs on this theme ...

And,

Troubleshooting cable problems in an election season ...

There were two excellent cartoons on the "trojan horse" theme this past week, and so I decided to round them out with some others from my collection ...

Because no plan survives contact with the enemy, a good general always has a "Plan B" ...

Because, you know, they just might think it isn't ... well ...

History doesn't record the Trojans' revenge for the Greek deception, but this would have been truly horrible ...

If Plans A and B don't work out, a good general always has a Plan C ...

And finally, we combine ancient history with terrible puns to end the week on a low note ...

So, Dear Readers, another week comes to an end. Agnes and I will be putting up the Christmas tree later today ... if you listen carefully, you will probably be able to hear me cursing at the traditional malfunctioning lights.

Some things just never change.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts tomorrow.

Now I'll be singing "Send in the Clowns: all day!! (I hear this will replace the benediction at the opening sessions of Congress).

We have one of those 'guns' to fix broken lights. We're not sure how it works, yet, or if it does. I think Big Guy bought it with the idea of turning it on himself instead of putting up lights.

"of nearly Congressional strength"

Now that's really strong.
