I wanted to write about something serious today, but I just couldn't get my brain going ... so let's just consider a few odds and ends for the end of another week ...
The kleptocratic, paranoid, and completely lunatic government of North Korea, which can't feed its people without demanding assistance by threatening other countries, has spent an estimated $850 million to launch a rocket ... which broke up and fell into the sea, anyhow. Want to know the real cost of that escapade to the Hermit Kingdom? Read about it here.
Today we celebrate the birthday (in 1906) of Irish playwright and novelist Samuel Beckett. Go ahead and start the party ... Vladimir and Estragon have arrived, but there's no sense waiting until Godot gets here.
It's an election year ...
And, as an amateur historian with a particular interest in the World War II era, I thought this was a classic ...
That's all. Come back tomorrow for Cartoon Saturday ... which will feature one of the most horrendous pun cartoons you've ever seen.
You have been warned.
Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

Odds and ends like these are great! Especially the scissors beating paper.
Was Samuel Beckett born on Friday the 13th? I remember having to read two of his back in college.
The honey dipper's truck sign is very apropos.
Did Godot ever come?
Great ends and odds, too.
Angel, only Godot's girlfriend could answer that one.
Why did it take so long for someone to come up with the scissors beats paper comparison? Just a question.
Maybe they overdoses on the History channel, Mike.
Bilbo, I'm not superstitious. I just don't like stepping on cracks.
