The Right-Cheek Ass Clown for October, 2019

We are into the last quarter of 2019, and a new month that offers new opportunities to single out worthy* ass clowns for appropriate recognition.

This year has been an extraordinarily difficult one in which to identify specific individual ass clowns who rose above the prevailing level of staggering ass-clownery, and the dawning month of October proves no less challenging.  I was strongly tempted to grant this period's award to the entire GOP in recognition of its spinelessness and moral bankruptcy in complete subjugation to the horrendous behavior of Der Furor (who is, himself, a lifetime Ass Clown Award winner). However, I believe that there is a single member of the Republican Party - to which I once proudly belonged - who has so debased himself and injured the nation that he is a standout selectee for recognition as a peerless ass clown.

The award for

The Right-Cheek Ass Clown for October, 2019

is presented to

Senator Ron Johnson (R, WI)

During an appearance on the news broadcast Meet the Press on Sunday, October 6th, Senator Johnson repeatedly dodged questions about the administration's policy on Ukraine, choosing instead to recite a list of Der Furor's grievances with the media and a litany of right-wing conspiracy theories designed to cast doubt on every question posed by moderator Chuck Todd. Johnson went on to say, in answer to a question by Mr Todd, that he "absolutely" believed Russia had interfered in the 2016 election, but that he did not trust the FBI and CIA - the American agencies that had determined the truth of the Russian interference. You can watch the entire Meet the Press episode here, in case you didn't see it originally.

The amazing spectacle of a sitting United States Senator publicly stating that he did not trust the nation's premier law enforcement and intelligence services was stunning ... and was quickly seized upon by Russian state television, which used it as "proof" to its listeners that the American charges of Russian election meddling were false.

Der Furor is fond of accusing his opponents of "treason," which is narrowly defined in the Constitution (Article III, Section 3) this way: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." One could reasonably argue that a United States Senator who expresses open mistrust of the nation's intelligence and law enforcement services is providing aid (in the form of "proof" to Russia that her enemies are corrupt) and comfort (I'm sure that President Putin and his cronies feel much better knowing that sitting US Senators are this stupid) to our enemies.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Readers, the Right Cheek Ass Clown for October, 2019, is Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Minnesota. What more needs to be said?

Have a good day, and come back tomorrow for the second week of our annual Halloween season Cartoon Saturday selections - this time featuring witches who have somehow escaped the constant witch hunts going on in this country. More thoughts then.

* I use the adjective "worthy" advisedly.

You probably didn't realize how difficult your job would be when you started this award. There seems to be so much competition for the dubious dishonor.

He was bobbing and weaving throughout the whole interview.
