Cartoon Saturday

Welcome to November ...

Award-winning CBS news commentator Andy Rooney has died at age 92; Greece, the birthplace of democracy, is spiraling down the economic and political drain ... oddly enough, without the help of Republicans and Democrats; a huge traffic accident involving 27 cars and trucks has left 35 people injured and an unknown number dead in England; a court in Turkey is under fire after reducing sentences on 26 men accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, ruling that the girl had engaged in "consensual sex" with all 26; and the Congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction - the so-called Super-Committee - continues to wallow in indecision, finger-pointing, and partisan stonewalling, ensuring that Real People get a good look at their elected officials in inaction just in time for the election season.

It's too early in the day to start drinking, so we'll just have to fall back on the cartoons to help us get over the lunacy.

No wonder the moon looks so smooth ... at least from a distance ...

Yes, it's definitely November, when we move from this ...

... to this ...

Perhaps we don't need to just occupy Wall Street ...

What's the fascination we have with pirates? Real pirates were sadistic, dirty, murderous thieves, at least before cleaning up and taking over board rooms and becoming lobbyists. If nothing else, though, they're good for some classic cartoons, like these two ...

And ...

The things that don't usually make it into the museums ...

And then, there are the ways that technology has changed the way we train our pets ...

Who needs health-care reform after all? It seems that a walletectomy always solves the problem ...

And finally for this edition of Cartoon Saturday, you have to wonder how things might have been if the "partner look" had caught on in Colonial America (in case you missed the point, check here) ...

And so it goes. Tuesday is election day, when we trudge to the polls to try and select among the various candidates, each of whom - according to his or her opponents - is the very spawn of Satan, working tirelessly to drive this great nation to ruin and perdition. You know my opinion already ...

At least we should have a nice weekend weather-wise here in Northern Virginia. At least, unless the Republicans try to cut it from the budget or the Democrats try to tax it. Be sure to turn out on Tuesday to vote for the least-despicable ass clown of your choice ... it's your civic duty.

Have a good day. More thoughts coming.

The pirate in the psychiatatrist really had me laughing. The Adultress with a child was beautifully subtle.

Subtlety reigned in the one with Hester and the baby. I guessed what the "B" stood for.

Great ones of the pirates and the moon, especially, but all were great laughs.

The last item may where I'll go next year. :(

Too early to drink? Isn't that why someone invented mimosas and bloody marys?

Thanks for another cartoon saturday; it is always a highlight of the week!
