Cartoon Saturday

And February grinds on ...

Acclaimed actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was buried this week after dying of a heroin overdose; Justin Bieber blah, blah, blah, blah, who cares; actor Leonard Nimoy has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease 30 years after having given up smoking; the 2012 Winter Olympics got underway in Sochi, Russia, amid tales of unfinished facilities and worries about toothpaste bombs; and if you are worried about the National Security Agency listening in on your telephone conversations, breathe easier - officials say the agency is only able to collect less than 30 percent of all Americans’ call records because it can't keep pace with the explosion in cellphone use.

But who cares about NSA, Justin Bieber, and double toilets in Russia when there are cartoons to be enjoyed?

This week's collection of theme cartoons honors that unsung hero of consumer safety, the crash test dummy.

It pays to be aware of your surroundings ...

Parents of all kinds worry about the boys their daughters dates ...

Because they must might date the wrong boys ...

A little twist on an otherwise serious problem ...

Some people just end up in the wrong line of work ...

This one is pretty obvious, if you think about it ...

Planning is important in running a business ...

The marriage of design and function ...

Ain't that the truth ...

And finally for this week's Cartoon Saturday, a look at cowboys and Indians and sound effects ...

And that's your Cartoon Saturday for this week. We're expecting a little more snow in the course of the day today, a little more perhaps tomorrow, and still another chance later in the week. I don't know about you, but I'm just about snowed out ... and the GOP won't let Spring come unless it's paid for with some other offset. I can hardly wait.

Coming up later in the week - the Ass Clown of the Month for February, and a special Valentine's Day edition of Cartoon Saturday. If you have a preferred candidate for the Ass Clown of the Month, leave a comment or send me an e-mail. Your elected reprehensives may not listen to you, but I will.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts tomorrow.

Ass Clown of the Month nominations:
John Boehner, for saying immigration reform isn't possible because this President can't be trusted to enforce the law.

Vladimir Putin and his cronies, for stealing so much money from the Olympic budget that the venues and infrastructure are not only not ready but also dangerous (e.g. toxic water).

Senate Republicans (and probably the House as well when given the chance to vote) for not extending unemployment benefits because "it just makes people lazy" when in actuality there aren't many jobs to be had because they have blocked every sane attempt to create jobs.

The NFL executives, who maintain their nonprofit status despite earning billions on the Super Bowl and sticking all the associated costs on the hosting state (in this case my home state of NJ).

It's hard to pick just one, and the month isn't even half over!
Thankfully we have Cartoon Saturday to help us out. I always look forward to it.

Don't roll over, Beethoven!

Double toilets is taking intimacy to an uncomfortable level.

If only the voters had someone to vote for who wasn't bought and paid for.

The double toilets reminded me of the row of toilets in a barracks bathroom.

There are co-ed toilets in some places.
