Cartoon Saturday

New month, new stuff you couldn't dream up ...

Der Furor has proposed building up to ten “freedom cities,” on federal land, whose inhabitants (presumably conservatives seeking a brighter future free of all the things that frighten them) would commute via flying cars; after a lengthy trial, South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murder of his wife and son; savage street fighting continued in the ruined Ukrainian city of Bakhmut as Russian forces tried to seize the city from defending Ukrainian forces; so-called "whiskey fungus" is spreading uncontrollably on homes, trees, and other outdoor surfaces around Lincoln County, Tennessee, fed by alcohol vapors from barrels of Jack Daniel’s whiskey aging in local warehouses; and from the never-ending trove of weirdness that is the fruit of discovery in Dominion Voting Systems' defamation lawsuit against Fox News comes an e-mail from attorney Sidney Powell citing evidence of voting fraud provided by a woman claiming to be a decapitated time-traveler

Since the present often seems to have so little to recommend it, let's take a look back at some humor based on ancient Rome ...

"Caesar, I have good news and I have bad news ..."

A streamable thing happened on the way to the Forum ...

A Roman retirement gift for a long career ...

Uh, oh ...

Nero makes a choice ...

You're gonna need a bigger screen ...

Be careful  of what the contractor tells you ...

IDs have always been problematic ...

Being a police sketch sculptor must have been a time-consuming job ...

Remember what I said about contractors? ...

And that's it for our cartoon trip to ancient Rome ... I came, I saw, I posted the cartoons.

Have a good day and a great weekend. More thoughts coming tomorrow, when Poetry Sunday returns. See you then.
