As if we didn't have the arctic temperatures to deal with, the past weekend has been dangerous for other reasons.
In Columbia, Maryland, a man used a shotgun in a crowded mall to murder two people before turning the gun on himself.
At South Carolina State University, two men got into an argument, whereupon one pulled out a gun and shot the other dead.
Have a good day. Know what to do in an "active shooter" situation*. The situation isn't likely to get any better.
More thoughts tomorrow.

* Isn't it grand that a university needs to put out guidance on this subject?

It's sad that institutions must actually issue such bits of advice.
It's way past time for a rewrite of the 2nd amendment. Unfortunately, that's impossible right now because of lobbies like the NRA. One has to wonder how many deaths would be needed for there to be enough of an outcry for change. With warped logic though, the more deaths means change cannot be allowed. We need representatives who are responsive to the majority of the people. (Now there's a "new" concept!)
Active shooter. It's sad that everyone knows what that means.
So sad and trying. It used to be that the only shooters we heard about on campuses involved tequila or rum.
I wonder if media coverage spawns some copycat killers.
