The Third Ass Clown of the Month Award for October, 2014

Today is not only Halloween, the day when we celebrate all things scary ... it's also the day to announce

Our Third Ass Clown of the Month Award for October!

And how appropriate is it that one of the scariest times of all - Election Day - is coming up in just a few days?

With that in mind, it seemed only logical to seek for our latest Ass Clown designee in the world of politics, and therefore it gives me great pleasure to announce that our final Ass Clown dishonoree for the month of October is an individual who is winning the award for the third time* ...

Speaker of the House John Boehner

Mr Boehner edged out many other worthy candidates for his third citation with this amazing comment he made earlier this week (you can watch it in context here):

"... does anybody think that Vladimir Putin would have gone into Crimea had George W. Bush been president of the United States? No! Even Putin is smart enough to know that Bush would have punched him in the nose in about 10 seconds!"

Mr Boehner seems to be suffering from GOP historical amnesia, having conveniently forgotten that, on Mr Bush's watch, Vladimir Putin invaded the independent nation of Georgia without having his nose punched.

For his blatant ignorance of history and straight-faced peddling of political fantasy utterly disconnected from reality, John Boehner is named our third Ass Clown of the Month for October, 2014.

Remember things like this next week when you go to the polls.

Have a good day. Come back tomorrow for a special election edition of Cartoon Saturday ... more thoughts then.

It seems that the idea of the past being subject to revision is alive and well. To quote Bugs Bunny, what a maroon!

Okay, no doubt a stupid thing to say. Next week, find me a Democrat with his foot in his/her mouth, though, because it isn't just the GOP. I'm frustrated with the more conservative politicians as well, but it is definitely not one-sided. And we do still have to vote on the individual when we go to the polls, not just the party. Just saying.....

Linda, your point is well-taken. There are certainly examples of dumbassery on the part of both parties. As I have said so often in the past, though, I tend to be harder on the GOP because I am conservative at heart, but disgusted by the way the extreme right has hijacked the party, substituting nonsense for sound principles of conservative government. I don't like the Democrats and can't stand today's Republicans ... who's left to represent me?

It may not just be the GOP but it is the majority the GOP. Sorry Linda, you must see that. Hey we used to be republicans - but they are all nuts now! These are not what the party used to be. There is a woman on The View who is a straight Republican (worked for Bush and McCain) and she makes sense. She hates what has happened to her party. At least she can see straight, think for herself and really see what is happening and is trying to change it. Right now they are just white mean mean spirited bigot and hateful mostly men with no logic or a heart. I saw last night on Letterman he and Brian Williams talking about the space program. Dave said in today's political environment if Pres. Kennedy said today he wanted to go to the moon the right would make him a laughing stock. Sadly I fear he is correct. There is no working together for the greater good, only standing still and making things worse.

The major newspapers in this country are prone to emphasize gaffes made by Republicans, and soft peddle those made by Democrats. Yes, it was a dumb thing to say.
