Updated Beauty Contests

Miss America. Miss USA. Miss Universe. Miss Black America. Miss Asian America. Miss Native American. There's a beauty pageant for just about every permutation and combination of lady you can imagine. I'm waiting to vote for my favorite - Miss Anthropic.

Most of these contests usually have a few common elements: an evening gown competition, a swimsuit competition, a talent competition, and the opportunity to give a brief impromptu speech (which historically has led to unintentional howlers like this one).

But we may need to have a new element of beauty competitions: bomb-throwing.

According to this article I spotted yesterday on CNN, former beauty queen Kendra Gill (aka Miss Riverton) from Utah was arrested, along with three of her friends, for throwing bombs. This is unusual, because she had said during the pageant that she intended to focus on fitness, rather than anarchy.

Gives new meaning to the term "blonde bombshell," doesn't it?

Oh, for the good old days, when the talents demonstrated by the contestants were things like baton twirling, singing, playing the piano, and hammering out sheet metal. Times change, don't they?

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

Beauty contestants usually give pat answers to questions, and try to look like the stereotyped beauty contest entrant. Maybe Miss Utah did demonstrate a talent for chemistry. That blows being for world peace, though.

The bomb-throwing beauty queen from Utah -- made to order for late-night programs like Jimmy Fallon and Dave Letterman.

She's going to make a big bang!

Or she can be Raj's girlfriend on The Big Bang Theory.

If I was Miss Utah, I would have announced, "SCREW THIS! THIS IS THE TIME ON SPROCKETS WHEN WE DANCE!" and then I would have pulled out my best dance moves until they dragged me off the stage. Or I would have cried. It's a toss up.

Angel - Good point!

Heidi - She'd do a bang-up job for sure.

Canary - wow! Long time, no hear! Nice to hear from you!
