Musical Sunday

You have probably noticed that the very rich are getting a lot richer nowadays, and that many of them - 57, to be exact - are represented in Der Furor's regime. According to a report from the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen, the number of people worth at least $100 million the Orange Airhorn has appointed to his administration is more than four times the combined total under the three previous presidents. One wonders if such people are able to relate to the issues of the hundredaires and thousandaires ... not to mention the nillionaires ... they are supposed to be serving.

I was reminded of this great 2004 song by The Grandsons, which celebrates something you're not likely ever to do ...

Here are the lyrics ...

Never miss a chance to party with the rich
'cause the rich know how to scratch that party itch.
For the rich don't care how much it costs
'cause a dollar saved is a dollar lost
when it's comin' in faster than you could ever spend it.

Now the rich pass platters of shrimp
the size of your fist.
It makes you weep for all the parties that you missed
And the rich get the hippest rock and roll bands
and they turn it up as loud as they can stand
'cause their next-door neighbor lives a half a mile away.
I don't care what my friends at Greenpeace say
'cause the rich are just as right as a rainy day

It's not cheating
if it's a catered affair. (4x)

Now the rich don't care if you crash on their couch
'Cause the rich know what it is to get a little bit soused
And you learn what it means to be a gracious host
when you wake to the smell of eggs and toast
and coffee floating in on a breeze from across the bay.
And I don't care what my friends at Greenpeace say
'cause the rich are just as right as a rainy day

So when the postman brings that hand-addressed note ...

It's not cheating
if it's a catered affair. (8x)

Most of us never party with the rich, but with the BYO crowd ... more expensive, but more typical. I'll see you there.

Have a good day and enjoy the rest of your weekend. More thoughts in a calm vein tomorrow, when Monday Mountains returns. See you then.
